London Sights, Sounds and Hotels
In Wapping in London there is a dire place known as the Execution Dock where convicted pirates danced the hempen jig, in other words where they were hanged for their crimes. In this very public event an officer who carried a silver oar, symbolising the power of the High Court of the Admiralty, escorted the convicted pirates from Marshalsea Prison or Newgate to the wooden gallows on the beach. The grim deed was always carried out at low tide, as the bodies of the executed men were left for the period of three tides. Captain Kidd was the most infamous of pirates to be executed here.
London city is not a place that you can explore in a short space of time. You'll either have to come back several times, or you'll have to stay a long time to visit all the London sights. Either way, you can try out more than one of the fabulous London hotels.
