Rome Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Castel Sant'Angelo is an overwhelming circular building between the Vatican and the Tiber and can be reached by one of the most beautiful bridges, the Pont Sant’ Angelo. Originally constructed as an imperial mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian in AD 135, it functioned as a papal fortress from the 6th century when it is said to have been given it’s name when Pope Gregory the Great saw an angle signalling the conclusion of the raging plague with a sword. An underground passage connects this castle with the Vatican and this passage was used by many Popes who fled various threats to Rome.

Rome's Castel Sant' Angelo has seen more blood and treachery than one can hope to imagine and is absolutely not to be missed during your visit to Rome city. The top class Rome hotels will ensure that you are confortable and relaxed throughout your stay.
